Music sales jumped for Super Bowl 2011 artists, including Black Eyed Peas

For those wondering "Where Is The Love?" for the Black Eyed Peas, it's been found.  You may have hated them and thought their performance was "awful", as some people stated.  Others stated the Super Bowl half-time show was "cool".  Some people hated it because they forgot Black Eyed Peas are a rap/hip-hop group with a backing vocalist (Fergie.)  It would have been great to see them dance the way they used to.  Some might remember "Head Bobs."  Many people thought the show was so cool that they bought more music from those artists who performed.

BEP's much-loved single, "Where Is the Love" jumped a shocking 332% for a weekly total of 23,000 track sales. "Let's Get It Started"jumped 125%.  Even very recent hits "Boom Boom Pow" gained 57%, and "I Gotta Feeling" rose 44%.  For all the haters who disliked Black Eyed Peas performance at the Super Bowl, it must come as a shock.

Other artists who performed or whose music appeared in commercials aired during the Super Bowl also experienced a jump in sales.  Eminem's "Lose Yourself," gained 18% in sales for a total of 22,000 sold.  The Crysler ad still airs.  Usher, Boz Scaggs, Ram Jam, Elton John, Kenny G and Guns 'n' Roses expereinced sales jumps of 22% or larger.

Sales figures are only for the week immediately following the Super Bowl.  Many artists were also nominated for the 2011 Grammy Awards, so it could be that people were primed for buying music.

The biggest jump in sales of all was for "I've Had (The Time of My Life)" by Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley which rose 453%.  The Black Eyed Peas song including that song "The Time (Dirty Bit)," experienced an 8% drop in sales, however, even with that drop, it's still BEP's top-selling single.  The song is best know for being part of the soundtrack for the beloved 1987 hit film, Dirty Dancing.  In 1987 there were no digital sales and it's most likely that people purchased the song in digital format to hear an old favorite on their iPods.

It will be interesting to see what happens in terms of albums sales.  Read more from the RIAA website.
